Natural Resource Policies with Mr. Redding

One of my Political Science courses was Natural Resource Policies with Kevin Redding, the executive director of the Piedmont Land Conservancy. The course opened my eyes to the nuance of environmental situations around the world.

Air Force Fuel Emissions

This assignment evaluates the environmental impact of fuel emissions by aircrafts in the U.S. Air Force fleet and what our government could do to mitigate it.

My focus on the USAF was a result of the fact that I was a cadet in the Air Force ROTC of NC A&T (Detachment 605).

Nearly three years after I’d written this assignment, the USAF released its first climate plan. See: The US Air Force releases its first plan to reduce carbon footprint & adapt to climate change by Planetary Security Initiative, published in October 2022.

Pre-Salt Drilling in the Santos Basin

As the third generation of a family of Brazilian lawyers, I often used my Poli-Sci assignments as opportunities to investigate Brazilian politics.

In this Natural Resources course, I did a deep dive (pun intended) on Santos Basin oil drilling, and all the spills and deaths and corruption associated with it.

It seems drilling operations have persisted seamlessly, despite the Brazilian real not appreciating in value the way involved leaders had hoped. See: The Unseen Toll of Brazil’s Offshore Industry by Fair Planet, and Brazilian Real to USD Exchange Rate (1995-2026) by Macrotrends.
