2023 Travel Plans by Nomadic Folks – ABSGELLER

Daily writing prompt
What are your future travel plans?

My 2023 Travel Plans were set by the end of January. I tricked y’all, cause this post is more about travels I’ve done this year than the travels we intend for the future.

Between my best friends in LA and NYC, dad in Florida, my entire family in Brazil, and my heart in all the wild places I will go, Andrea (and Peterson by proxy) can’t stay home for long.

All of the trips, in order:

AprilBackpacking at Mt. Rogers and Mt. Mitchell
MayMemorial day weekend at Black Mountain Campground
JuneAnnual Beach trip with Pete’s sister and fiancé, Kim and Kevin and friends
Visiting Blaine, Cassidy, and a new friend Kaitlyn in NYC
JulyCanceled – visiting my dad and stepmom, Arlene, in Florida
AugustPossibly going to the beach to spend time with Pete’s older sister
SeptemberBIG ASS BACKPACKING TRIP!!!
NovemberTaking Pete to Brazil with me
DecemberHoliday travels? Who knows

APRIL – Backpacking at Mt. Rogers and Mt. Mitchell

Our first planned trip of the year was when we backpacked for a week, split into two trips at Mt. Rogers and Mt. Mitchell. I posted a blog post about it here.

This was an cozy, romantic, and wild(ponies) weekend. I love having a partner who enjoys the outdoors – more even than I do – and challenges me to push myself to my full potential.

MAY – Memorial Day Weekend at Black Mountain Campground

Yet another outdoors venture, this time with friends! Thanks again Bob and Mackenzie for a splendid time. My dumbass forgot my rain jacket and had to steal from Pete, ’cause he was prepared and brought both of his jackets. We ended up skedaddling pretty quickly on our second morning.

JUNE – Annual Beach Trip with Kim & Kevin

Last year’s annual beach trip was my first and a blast. This year’s was even better, because I get anxious around new people. So the second time ’round, I was a lot more comfortable. Both times I rocked it in volleyball, but the second time is when I got hit in the face with one. It was awesome.

Check out the second slide for an epic slo-mo of Pete on the skidboard!

JUNE – Visiting Blaine and Cass in NYC

You guys are probably tired of the IG embeds, but here’s another one. We partied like the true NYC-veteran-tourists (and residents… seeing as both Kaitlyn and Blaine live there) and spent most of our time wandering flea markets and running in Central Park. I jogged/walked over four miles, which is a rarity for me!

Within fifteen minutes of being in the big apple, I lost my water bottle and a lady tried to fight me on the metro. Wouldn’t have been a New York City welcome without them.

JULY – Hollywood, Florida is where my dad lives

Although I am very sad that this trip to Florida was canceled due to my parents getting ill coming back from their cruise, I decided to share some photos of dad and Pete from our last trip down there. Aren’t they the cutest?

AUGUST – Another Beach trip for another sister

Pete’s sister Sarah is coming to visit the beach house this coming month. The following are photos of the logo I’ve been working on for her lavender farm! Please excuse the blurry photos.

SEPTEMBER – THE BIG ASS BACKPACKING TRIP

We’re going to the Maroon Bells and some other place, driving from Greensboro to Colorado/Utah. Flying out of Salt Lake City. Three weeks in the wilderness! We are so excited!

We just spent butt loads of mula on Osprey backpacks, Marmot jackets, and other trip-related expenses on Amazon. All worth it. Did you know Osprey backpacks have a lifetime warranty?

Here’s a photo of Pete being his wild man self.

NOVEMBER – Taking Pete home with me

Yeah, it’s totally not a big deal, it’s just the first guy I’m taking to meet my grandparents. My grandparents are absolutely wonderful. The following picture was taken from my very first blog post on my WordPress, located here.

… and Beyond!

To update on Bailey the Bus, I just purchased the first materials to build the brackets to raise the roof!

Sometimes I say that “I’mma raise the roof” to people and they seem to think it’s a joke. For a long time, it seemed, so did I. But having finally purchased the all threads, tubing, nuts, and steel plates, it feels real and attainable again.

And where shall we travel to then? The real question is,

Where won’t we travel to?

Special thanks to these guys here for teaching Pete and I the step by step.
