The Plesiosaurus is the best dinosaur – tell me I’m wrong

If you’ve seen my plesiosaurus tattoo, you already know this about me, but I’m a big fan of Nessie the Loch Ness monster (I reject the monster label) creature. There are three particular reasons for why! Its Norse history, my astrological chart, and a Phineas and Ferb episode.

If you could bring back one dinosaur, which one would it be?

My Plesiosaurus Tattoo

Here are a YT video and IG post with my plesiosaurus tattoo, done by Sierra Jacobs at Obsidian Tattoo. She’s done a bunch of my pieces – thanks, Sierra!

Norse Mythology on Plesiosauruses

The Norse mythology creature that most closely resembles plesiosauruses is the Jǫrmungandr, which is an endless sea serpent that encompasses the globe, much like Crom Cruach in the Secret of Kells, one of my favorite movies of all times.

Not getting full into the concept of an endless villainous creature, we can all accept just how fascinating the metaphorical concept of the villainous endlessness within ourselves, can’t we?

Pisces Sun and Sagittarius Moon are both represented by Nessie

As explained in my Valentine’s Day 2023 blog post, I’ve developed characters for each of my astrological signs. My Pisces sun is typically represented by a whale, and my Sagittarius moon by a snake. Bam – put together, they make Nessie. The IG posts below depict the two in my mind.

The Lake Nose Monster Phineas & Ferb episode

In this episode, Phineas and Ferb build a submarine (boat?) to find “Nosey” during their Lake Nose vacation with their family. While Nosey had always been depicted as monstrous and violent, Phineas and Ferb find that Nosey is quite friendly.

I love the message I feel I learned as a kid at the time, that not all is what it seems. And especially, that nature is often perceived as more harmful than it may actually be. At least, that is how I’ve internalized the lessons of the episode.

Bring back one dinosaur – the plesiosaurus

So, that is my case for why the plesiosaurus should be the dinosaur that is brought back. Because its origins seem existential, I think she’s a great representation of water and fire elements combined, and Phineas and Ferb have proven that she’s nice. What do you think?
